Experimental View of Search Textboxes

Sep 16, 2012 at 10:20 AM

Hi,

I took a look into current implementation of keywords dropdown, and this implementation is not simple and clear, so it may confuse peoples. e.g., it replaced some keywords to synonyms "on the fly", and also it allows to type wrong keyword, that not present in keywords list (e.g. Discharge).

So, I've committed Experimental View of Search Textboxes

  1. Two textboxes instead one dropdown.
  2. Top textbox - shows all current selected keywords, also user can add keywords by typing them.
  3. Bottom textbox - dropdown with disallowed text editing.
  4. After keyword was selected in bottom dropdown, it automatically adds into top textbox.
  5. If top textbox contains any invalid keywords, then they will removed before search started (with message box to confirm this).
  6. Keywords replaced by synonyms only before search, not "on the fly".

I agree, that two textboxes is a little redundantly, but at least it looks more clear and simpler than previous view.

I'm testing the new interface (in HydroDesktop 1.5.7 experimental version)

Suggested changes:

1. move dropdown to top and move textbox to bottom

2. If user selects a new keyword using drop-down or using advanced dialog: remove 'All' from the list of current keywords.

3. Large number of selected keywords is difficult to see. It would help to also display selected keywords in the status bar.
