We should ask if we can collect use data from uses, and what they are doing

One big piece is, What are you trying to do today? did you accomplish this?

  • User opens HD.
  • Asks what user is doing
    • Experiementing with HD
    • Collection data for a purpose
    • Collecting data from a HD tool (R, Hydromodeler)
    • QA-ing data
  • Purpose is sent to CUAHSI
  • Actions are logged to a file
  • At end of session, asks user if this was accomplished.

My experience is that one gets better data from passive observation of what users are doing, than by asking them. A collection system works best when it requires no input whatsoever from users.
